COMBINING TRADITIONAL CRAFT with DESIGN THINKING
Founded by James Maclean in 2024, Suí Upholstery is dedicated to creating individual furniture that revives loved (and unloved) pieces when off-the-shelf, fast furniture simply doesn’t hit the mark. All in the most responsible way possible.
James is an accredited upholsterer having completed his diploma through the Association of Master Upholsterers and Soft Furnishers. This, coupled with his degree in Product Design from the Glasgow School of Art, allows him to provide a truly holistic service when it comes to achieving the best outcomes for Suí customers.

Full restoration- stripping back to the frame and upholstering from scratch.
Partial reupholster - preserving as much of the original materials and craft as possible.
Recover - updating the fabric when the furniture is still in good condition.
We can also carry out any necessary repairs to more structural elements like frames and legs.

Traditional upholstery
Usually pre-1950’s furniture that has traditional, natural fibres and materials such as horse hair and hessian.
Modern upholstery
Generally post 1950’s furniture that has modern, synthetic materials such as foam and dacron.

As well as helping your choose your dream design, we can navigate you through the technical aspects such as fire regulations, durability and wear resistance, maintenance, sustainability and of course, budget.
